Review TP Link Archer C6-Two-Band, Gigabit Mu-Mimo Wi-Fi Router

I got acquainted with TP-Link Archer C6, studied its characteristics, looked at the settings, read reviews and I’m ready to share my opinion about this router and make a small review. If you are looking at the Archer C6 and thinking about buying this router, then perhaps this article will be useful to you. If you are choosing a router for your home, plan to connect all your devices to it and use the connection for common tasks (browsing sites, videos, downloading files, online games, etc.) and don’t want to spend a lot of money on flagship models, then Archer C6 will most likely suit you. It has excellent technical characteristics, adequate price and stylish appearance (in my opinion).
First I will tell you about the technical characteristics, functions and technologies that are in this model. TP-Link Archer C6 is equipped with gigabit ports (which is very important if the speed of your Internet connection is higher than 100 Mbps). Of course, this is a dual-band router. In addition to support for the usual 802.11 b/g/n (2.4 GHz) standards, it supports 802.11ac and the ability to distribute Wi-Fi network at 5 GHz. And importantly, this router features MU-MIMO, which until recently was only found in flagship routers. Thanks to MU-MIMO support, the throughput of the wireless network is increased. The router “communicates” with devices not one by one (as it happens on routers without MU-MIMO support), but simultaneously with two devices. The access point mode is perfectly realized. It is enough just to switch the router to this mode in the web-interface.
Five non-removable antennas provide a strong and stable signal Wi-Fi network. 4 external antennas and 1 internal. Plus, Archer C6 has Beamforming feature. It improves Wi-Fi coverage by detecting the location of devices and focusing the signal towards them. I think this router will be enough for a three-room apartment without any problems (in terms of Wi-Fi network coverage). And some more technical information about Archer C6:
- Wi-Fi network speed: up to 300 Mbps in the 2.4GHz band and up to 867 Mbps in the 5GHz band.
- WAN/LAN port speeds: up to 1000 Mbps (1 Gbps).
- Supports MU-MIMO and Beamforming technology.
- 4 external and 1 internal Wi-Fi antenna. The antennas are non-removable. No information about the power.
- Support for TP-LINK Tether application (router setup and management).
- Access point mode.
- There is support for IPTV.
- Parental control, guest Wi-Fi network, WDS (wireless bridge), blocking devices by IP/MAC-address, remote management and many other features.
TP-Link Archer C6 router is not equipped with a USB port. It means that you can’t connect drives, printers, modems to this router. We can’t say that this is a disadvantage of this model. It’s just a router without USB. Since many people do not need a USB-port. And if there is one, then you have to pay extra for it. And why pay for something that you will never use.
Appearance of TP-Link Archer C6
The box the router comes in looks like this:
The box has the main specifications and features of the router. On the back side there is a description of the main technologies and functions. There is also a QR code for downloading the TP-LINK Tether application.
Inside everything is well and reliably packed. The package is standard for routers: the device itself, network cable, power adapter and instructions. The usual instructions, cable and power adapter – nothing interesting.
The whole router is made of black plastic. Only the top panel is made of glossy plastic with an unusual structure, and the bottom part and antennas are made of matte plastic. Of course, the glossy panel shows fingerprints and dust. Also, it’s very difficult to photograph 🙂 🙂
On top there is a beautiful logo of TP-Link company and standard indicators, which burn green, dim color.
The antennas fold and swivel, and the router can be hung on the wall. There are enough holes for cooling the router board.
Buttons and ports: 4 LAN and 1 WAN port, Power connector for power adapter connection, a separate button for power off (Power On/Off), Reset button ( for resetting settings) and WPS/wi-fi On/Off button (for activating WPS function and disabling/enabling Wi-Fi network broadcasting).
TP-Link Archer C6 has a new, simple and beautiful web interface.
I’ve talked in detail about setting up this router and, accordingly, about the web-interface itself in this article: /tp-link/detailed-instructions-for-setting-up-the-tp-link-archer-c6-router/
Beautiful, powerful enough, modern and functional router. An optimal solution for a house or an apartment. TP-Link Archer C6 is a great choice when you don’t want to buy the cheapest router and there is no need/ability to overpay for flagship models. The only thing is that it doesn’t have a USB port. But if you don’t need it, or you don’t know why you need it, you can safely consider this model for purchase.
