Who-Fi Without Access to the Internet, Or is Limited?

We are back to the problem when there is a connection to the Wi-Fi network, but the Internet does not work. That is, wi-fi without Internet access. This is the connection status you can see on a Windows 7 computer. And the inscription “limited” in Windows 8, and Windows 10. The problem is the same, and the solutions are almost the same. This is probably the most popular problem faced by everyone who uses a Wi-Fi router to connect to the Internet.

The essence of the problem: after connecting a laptop, computer, smartphone, tablet, TV, or other device to your Wi-Fi network, the Internet does not work. On the computer appears a yellow exclamation mark, near the Wi-Fi network icon and the inscription “No Internet access”, or “Restricted”. On mobile devices, the Internet simply doesn’t work, websites don’t open, etc.

wi-fi without internet access

It turns out that there is a connection to wi-fi, but the Internet does not work. In Windows 10, this problem looks exactly the same. One more thing: if the network is not yours, for example, your neighbor’s open Wi-Fi, in a cafe, store, etc., and after connecting there is no access to the Internet, then in such cases, it is unlikely to be possible to do anything. Most likely, some restriction in the network to which you connected. Or, your kind neighbor simply did not pay for the Internet.

Important! If you have Internet over Wi-Fi without access to the Internet in the process of configuring the router, then read this instruction: /errors-and-breakdowns/when-setting-up-a-router-he-writes-without-access-to-the-internet-or-is-limited-and-there-is-no-connection-with-the-internet/ There I wrote in detail on what settings of the router should pay attention to, and how to configure the distribution of Internet over Wi-Fi network. As a rule, all settings boil down to one thing: to properly configure the router to work with your Internet provider.

It is very important to understand one point. The Wi-Fi network itself is not necessarily access to the Internet. A router can perfectly distribute Wi-Fi and not even be connected to the Internet. For example, Wi-Fi can be used to connect several devices into one local network, without access to the Internet. Whether you can access the internet via wi-fi or not depends on one thing: whether the internet is connected to the router, and whether it is properly configured. I have already written about this in the article: Router does not give out Internet over wi-fi. What to do?

Yes, there are cases when from one and the same network Internet on the phone for example works, but on the laptop does not. In this case, most likely you need to look for the problem in the laptop settings.

Why can’t I access the Internet via wi-fi on my laptop?

I have already written many articles on this topic (links to some of them I gave above). If you have such a problem on your laptop or computer (with Wi-Fi receiver), then take a close look at the following article: “Connection is limited” in Windows 10 over Wi-Fi and network cable.

One instruction is for Windows 7 and the other is for Windows 10. The articles are large, I don’t see the point in repeating what has already been written, and it wouldn’t be an article, but a mess. And so, all in one place. If you have connected your laptop to wi-fi, and there is a yellow icon “no internet access”, then open one of the articles above (which is suitable for your operating system), and follow the instructions.

Faced with such a problem when setting up a router, or on a mobile device? I also gave links to special articles with solutions to these problems at the beginning of this page.
