Wi-Fi works very slowly on a laptop with one of the routers at home (it works fine with another router)

So. We have two different routers at home with internet from two different providers. We are now testing the internet from the new provider.

The internet from the old provider goes through a Technicolor wi-fi router. All devices – phones, tablets, laptops – work equally well with it.

The new provider distributes internet through a D-Link Dir-825 router. And there is a strange situation here.

One laptop, when connected to it, just barely crawls on the Internet. I can’t even measure the speed – the 2ip page takes three minutes to load and doesn’t load until the end 🙂 🙂
All other devices – laptops, phones, tablets – work fine. Only this one laptop, Asus, fairly new and from a top of the line – is dying. Windows 8.
I do not know what it can be connected with. All settings are more or less standard. Nothing specific. I even bought a 5Ghz adapter for it – the built-in wifi can’t do it – it did nothing.

Help to solve this mystery.

Answer

Yes, it is indeed a mystery. And it is very strange that after connecting to D-Link Dir-825 at 5 GHz the problem remains. Have you tried to connect this problematic laptop to D-Link Dir-825 via cable?

What I can advise: experiment with Wi-Fi and security settings on D-Link Dir-825. Change the network name, mode of operation, try a different wi-fi channel. Also, you can change the type of security. Disable the WPS function.

It is clear that it is very difficult to give any specific advice. It’s just that the internet over wi-fi works slowly only on one laptop. If only on all devices.
