Wi-Fi signal loss when connecting a large number of devices
The essence: On the roof of the building is a media converter 16 port switch, which comes fiber-optic cable from the provider. Then comes the connection to a 1Gbit router (first was Tp-link Archer C2), now mirotik (according to the operator industrial). From this router 2 gigabit network cables are laid down and connected to additional 2 routers. That is, 3 routers = 3 networks passworded + 2 guest. All this goodness works like clockwork in normal time, but as soon as one day the hall is filled with people, it becomes impossible to connect via Wi-Fi with the main router (mikrotik). The provider recommended to supplement this composition with an additional antenna (in the form of a UFO). It costs about 2500 UAH, but the issue even with it was not solved. Wi-Fi as lost, and is lost. But the Internet itself on the cable works. Can you tell us the solution? Thank you in advance.
Answer
Good day. There are a lot of unclear points. Please clarify this information in the comments:
- What is the model of MikroTik router?
- How many clients approximately connect to wi-fi, after which there is a loss of wi-fi signal?
- Describe exactly how wi-fi is lost and why you can’t connect? What are the errors? Do devices stop seeing the network? What do you do to make everything work again?
- What frequency does the problem wi-fi network operate on?
- Is the wi-fi network of the two routers connected to MikroTik working normally?
I think it’s because the MikroTik just can’t handle the load. As far as I understand, it is created by a large number of Wi-Fi clients and two routers that are connected via cable.
