Two modems HG630 V2 Home Gateway on one local network

Hello, I have a local network of 150 computers with two HG630 V2 Home Gateway modems connected to it. DNS server is disabled on one of them and enabled on the other. Some IP addresses are static, others are assigned by one of the modems. Wireless networking is enabled on each modem, but on the modem where DNS server is disabled, devices do not connect (smartphones). Can the reason be that the DNS server is disabled and what is the best way to connect them in this case? Thank you!

Answer

Hello. Yes, the devices are most likely not connecting because the DHCP server on the HG630 V2 Home Gateway is disabled. The modem simply doesn’t give out IP and the devices can’t connect. There are two solutions:

  • Enable the DHCP server on the modem. After that it will automatically give out IP addresses and devices will connect.
  • Write IP settings manually on each mobile device. In your case on smartphones.

Why do you need to disable DHCP? The modem is not connected in access point mode, as I understand.
