The WDS connection between the TP-Link routers disappears and there is no access to the settings

Hello! I use TP-Link TL-WR720N router as a Wi-Fi signal repeater 2 km away from the source using a directional antenna. For correct operation I have to disable DHCP, otherwise my laptop and smartphone can not connect to the Internet. But about once a day I lose connection to the Internet (yellow icon). Only resetting the settings and setting up the WDS bridge again helps. After that everything is fine again. But only to get to the cherished physical Reset button is very problematic, because the antenna is installed on the roof. It is impossible to enter the “head” of the router, because DHCP is disabled and I am thrown to a remote base router, not to mine. How can you solve this issue tell me? Thanks in advance!

Answer

Hello. Of course, it would be good to solve the problem with connection drops between routers in WDS bridge mode.

True, it will be very difficult to find the cause of these connection failures. Especially since you have such a long distance network through a directional Wi-Fi antenna. Maybe it’s because of a weak TP-Link TL-WR720N router, maybe some interference, failures on the main router, etc. You can experiment. Configure the network on a different channel (have you set the same channels on both routers?), change other Wi-Fi network settings.

As for the problem with entering the settings of TP-Link TL-WR720N router, which is configured in bridge mode. Didn’t you change the IP address on it? I just don’t understand why you’re getting into the remote router settings, since they should have different IP addresses. And if even TP-Link settings aren’t available, it would just pop up an error.

As an option, in the settings of the remote router (if you have access to it) in the list of clients DHCP-server to find the second router (if it does not fall off, but just the Internet disappears) and go to it.

And after a normal reset, doesn’t connection with the remote router on TL-WR720N restore? Do I have to do a reset and configure the bridge again?
