The location of the router with the 3G modem MTS in a wooden house to increase the speed of the Internet
Greetings. Please advise. Where to place the router with 3g modem in a private wooden house. The reason for buying a router: the computer is under the table near the refrigerator. Speed 500 kbit/s incoming 50 kbit/s outgoing. Moved the router closer to the window, the speed increased to 1.1 and outgoing 50 and remained. The house is located in the lowlands, but not far from the city. 5 km maximum (we are on the map coverage 3g is) router ASUS RT-N16, modem standard Vodafone) Vodafone says that from their side everything is normal. It should work… What are the options without buying additional antennas and homemade devices. Thank you.
Answer
Hi. I see your point.
In your case, the placement of the wifi router itself is unlikely to make any difference. Since the house is wooden, and the signal will definitely be all over the house. It’s a pity that you didn’t write how you will connect your computer to the router. By wi-fi, or by cable.
The problem, as I understand it, is only low speed via 3G modem from Vodafone. And you bought the router to install the modem elsewhere (above).
I will write some options that may help you.
- After you put the modem near the window, the speed increased a little. Which means that your speed is bad most likely because of weak signal. 5 kilometers from the tower, that’s not much. But if your house is in a lowland, then most likely the signal there is not very good. You need to boost it.
- I don’t know how you have everything organized there, but there may be an option to install a router and modem from Vodafone in the attic. That way it’s higher up. And if there is a problem with connecting the cable to the PC, you can buy a wi-fi receiver for the PC.
- The modem can be connected via a USB extension cord. I think that a meter and a half router will pull. That is, we connect the extension cord to ASUS RT-N16, and connect the 3G modem at the other end of the extension cord. This way you can raise the modem even higher. Our goal is as high as possible and closer to the window on the side of the Vodafone tower.
- Ideally, of course, put an antenna for 3G modem.
- And another such point: the speed may be low because of the load of the base station of the operator to which you connect. For example, the download speed of 1.1 Mbit/s can be maximum through this tower. And no matter how you twist the modem or even the antenna, you won’t be able to squeeze out more.
I think I was able to help you at least a little. Feel free to ask questions in the comments below.
