Red cross on the connection icon, the Internet disappears and the router overheating

I recently had a very strange problem with the internet: the icon that shows the internet is connected or not. It began to show all the time the computer screen with a red cross even when the Internet is on, let’s move on to the topic, the Internet ipv4 began to periodically disconnect, I thought a virus, checked the whole pc for viruses nothing found nothing tried everything but nothing changed, visited to move from place to place router, because I thought that does not catch the router and by the way when it is disconnected stops sending and receiving bytes, recently it overheats. Please identify my internet problem and write a solution.

Answer

From your description it is very difficult to understand the cause and make any recommendations. Write answers to the following questions in the comments:

  1. Is the internet going down because of a problem with the computer, or the router? Or you haven’t figured it out?
  2. Do you have a PC, or a laptop? What kind of Windows are you running? And how is the computer connected to the router? It’s just that you immediately write that the icon “computer with a red cross” (as if the cable connection is lost). But then you write that you move the router for a better signal. Or is the computer still connected via Wi-Fi?
  3. Important! Is the Internet disappearing on all devices connected to the router?
  4. What do you do to make the Internet work again?
  5. Is the router warming up a lot? Does it turn off/reboot?
  6. You wrote that the connection icon has a red cross on it, but the internet is still working. And how do you determine that it is disconnected? In the IPv4 properties?

If the problem with internet on all devices, then the problem is definitely in the router. And if it is overheating, as you wrote, then it can cause free internet loss.
