Ping drawing due to the Xiaomi Mi WiFi 3 router

Good afternoon. Not so long ago I bought a Xiaomi Mi Wi-Fi 3. I have no complaints about the wireless signal, it gives out wi-fi perfectly, but I noticed that in games (in this case League of legends) I have a ping. My normal ping is ~78ms. And now it fluctuates up to 90+, and continuously, ie not standing one number, and constantly changing.

It seems like the difference is not huge at first glance, if you judge just by the numbers, but in fact the character in the game lags behind the events for 1-1.5 seconds, as if the ping was 150-200. At first I sinned on the ISP. Then I tried to connect the cable directly to the computer, without a router and voila! Stands exactly 78 and does not move.

I do not know what can be done. My firmware is stock. I read that many people use firmware from Padavan. But I don’t know if changing the firmware will help.

Answer

Good day. I think that the ping through the router in any case will be higher than directly. Even with a cable from the router, I’m not talking about wi-fi. A lot depends on the router itself. From the hardware and software optimization.

Xiaomi Mi-router 3 is far from being a gamer router, it’s not very powerful. Therefore, the ping increases slightly when connecting through the router. And it can vary depending on the load on the router itself. 78ms is already high ping for wired internet.

Try experimenting with the QoS function. This feature allows you to optimize the speed for the needs of a particular device. It might have some effect on the ping as well. You can try to disable, or on the contrary, enable this function (if it is disabled).

Bad ping through Xiaomi router

I wrote about it here: Why Xiaomi router cuts the speed on Wi-Fi and slow internet.

You need to install the latest firmware from the manufacturer.

As for the firmware from Padavan, it is difficult for me to advise something. I have not tested this firmware on Xiaomi Mi Wi-Fi 3. Perhaps the ping will be more stable, or maybe vice versa. It’s just a little bit easier with the settings there.
