Is it possible to connect Xiaomi Mi WiFi Router 4 to the ADSL Router TP-Link TD-W8960N?
Question: can I install Xiaomi router together with TP-LINK TD-W8960N from Vodafone? The thing is that as I understand the main all the same will be TP-LINK as it is primarily an ADSL modem, and only then router-router. Please give answers in simple language, and that in special terms is not strong. THANK YOU in advance.
Answer
Good afternoon. Whether there will be a speed increase for the Xiaomi Mi Box Smart TV set-top box after installing Xiaomi Mi Wi-Fi Router 4 (I understand you meant this router) – I can’t say. Everything is very individual. But I think there is no point. Putting a second router from Xiaomi for the sake of connecting Mi Box at 5 GHz is not a good solution.
It’s better to connect the set-top box to the 2.4 GHz network that TP-LINK TD-W8960N gives out and see how everything will work. If there will be a slow connection, then you can look for some solution. I, for example, am in favor of buying another ADSL modem with 5 GHz support.
As for your question: Mi Wi-Fi Router can be connected via cable to TP-LINK TD-W8960N. It can be configured in two modes:
- As a standalone router. Connect the cable from the ADSL modem to the WAN port. Xiaomi Mi Wi-Fi Router 4 is configured as usual. DHCP worship type, set the Wi-Fi network settings.
- As an access point. But I have not tested. In this mode, the TD-W8960N will be the main one (it will give out IP addresses). On the Mi Wi-Fi Router you need to set the wi-fi settings, disable the DHCP server. Connect the cable from TP-LINK to the LAN port (if it doesn’t work, you can try to connect it to the WAN).
We can discuss your question for a long time, but everything should be checked in practice. There may be a lot of nuances.
