How to remove the TV setup and set up channels on the TV? An error is absent CI (CAM module) on LG TV

I have bought a TV set LG 43UK6200. I have a TV set-top box from Vodafone. I can’t understand how to set the channels. TV and set-top box are connected to each other via HDMI, antenna is connected to the set-top box. If you turn on via HDMI, then all the channels show, but you can switch only with the remote control from the set-top box. I want to set the channels so that they were tuned directly in the TV and switch only with the remote control LG. If I connect the antenna to the TV, it finds all the channels, but writes that there is no CI (CAM module). How to correctly connect the TV set-top box from Vodafone to LG TV?

Answer

With this question it is better to address to your provider, which provides cable TV service. In your case it is Vodafone. But I will try to explain why the TV says that there is no CI (CAM module), and what you can do in this situation.

The set-top box itself in your case is used for encoding video content. That is, with its help you watch encrypted by the operator Vodafone TV channels. Your LG 43UK6200 TV has a built-in DVB-C tuner (for receiving cable channels), so when you connect the cable from the set-top box to the TV, it finds the channels. But it can’t show them as they are encrypted. The set-top box decrypts them, but the TV can’t. To be more precise, it can do it, but it needs a CAM-module with an access card (that’s why the error “No CI (CAM module)” appears).

Roughly speaking, this CAM module replaces the TV set-top box from the provider. The CAM-module itself, as well as the conditional access card (which is inserted into the CAM-module) is issued (sold) by the provider, which provides cable TV services. It looks like this:

CAM module instead of BT set-top box to use one remote control when watching cable TV

It plugs into the TV and decodes the channels the TV has found. Then you don’t need a set-top box, and you can only use one remote, from the TV.

I don’t have the information, but I think Vodafone should be able to buy exactly the CAM module and use it in the TV to watch encrypted channels instead of the set-top box. But most likely you will have to pay for it. But it’s more convenient, you don’t need to turn on the set-top box, use two remotes, etc.

Your LG 43UK6200 TV has a CI+ slot where this CAM module is inserted.
