How to make a common network of 2 routers?
Good afternoon.
There are two routers (first D-Link DIR-615, the second TP-Link TL-WR840N), connected by wire, the main Internet cable enters the D-Link, at first glance it was simple, connected from LAN D-Link to WAN TP-Link and everything works, without any settings, and wi-fi, and through the wire. But sometimes both the first and second router lose the network, they can see, but the Internet does not come to the devices over the “air”, on the second (TP-Link) tried to do and mode “access point” and “Wi-Fi signal booster”, but after switching to these modes on the router TP-Link no longer go to the network is there, but it does not see. Win 10.
The question is – how to make one amplified network from two routers connected by wire?
You can not publish, I do not principle, help solve the problem.
Answer
Hi. Alexander, I’ll probably start with the fact that you can’t make one network from ordinary Wi-Fi routers. It will be two access points. To make really one, seamless Wi-Fi network, you need a wi-fi Mesh system, or other equipment (router, repeater) with support for these technologies.
Two routers can be combined into one, common network. You can even try to set the same Wi-Fi network names (SSID) and passwords on both routers. And the network will be one (the devices will display one network, but in fact it will be two networks). And most likely it will not work the way you imagine it to work. There may be problems with reconnection of devices, speed, stability, etc.
D-Link DIR-615 is configured, it gives out Internet, we don’t touch it. On TP-Link TL-WR840N we reset the settings, go to the web-interface and change the last digit of the LAN IP address.
Then disable the DHCP-server.
After that we connect TP-Link TL-WR840N with D-Link DIR-615 using a LAN-LAN network cable. On TP-Link the cable is also plugged into one of the LAN-ports.
To enter TP-Link TL-WR840N settings after that, you will most likely need to enter D-Link DIR-615 settings and see the IP-address assigned to TP-Link in the list of connected clients. And use it to enter the web-interface.
But sometimes both the first and the second router lose the network, they are visible, but the Internet does not come to the devices over the “air”
This problem needs to be looked into in more detail. You need more specific information.
