Devices do not switch to a stronger Wi -Fi signal (router – repiter)

Hello. For some unknown reasons, all the settings on the TP-Link router were lost. After recovery for a very long time could not re-adjust the router to the repeater. (could not enter the settings of the repeater). I managed to revive the repeater only by activating the bridge in the router. Repeater connected, everything works. Disconnected the bridge. It works. However, there is a problem that moving away from the repeater and getting into the router zone, gadgets do not automatically switch to a stronger wi-fi signal. It is necessary to switch Wi-Fi on the phone, then it connects to the “strong” network. And similarly with the reverse procedure, moving away from the router closer to the repeater, no switch to the repeater. What to do? Thank you.

Answer

Hello, you should not have this problem. Devices should automatically switch between the router and the repeater. As I understand, it was like this before? It’s hard to say what exactly the problem is and how to fix it. I’ll give you my thoughts on the problem.

Let’s start with the fact that the settings on the router shouldn’t just go off. Unless you do a reset yourself. Perhaps it’s already some kind of hardware problem with TP-Link.

After setting up the TP-Link router, did you do a reset on the repeater?

I would do it like this:

  • TP-Link reset. Reset, standard setup without activating additional features like bridging. During the setup process, specify a different Wi-Fi network name.
  • Repeater reset and setup with TP-Link router.

After that the devices should switch automatically between the Wi-Fi network of the router and the amplifier. Bridge mode has nothing to do with it at all. I don’t see how activating this mode could help you. I think that’s the problem.
