D-Link 2540U ADSL modem does not connect to the Internet
There is some oddity. In order to enter the settings of the modem you need to enter in the browser not 192.168.1.1, as indicated on the back of the modem, but 192.168.1.2. Checked on different, completely independent computers. Can this indicate a malfunction of the modem and be the cause of malfunction?
After entering the settings, all options work, you can change settings, memorize, restart, but connection to the Internet does not happen. Externally, all indicators show normal operation . Factory reset does not change anything. All cables were checked. Phone connection works without fail. Help advice, thank you.
Answer
Hello. As for logging into the web-interface by IP-address 192.168.1.2 instead of 192.168.1.1, it can hardly be the reason why D-Link 2540U can’t connect to the Internet. Simply the network address of your ADSL modem has been changed. This is done in the LAN settings. You can change it back to 192.168.1.1. Perhaps someone changed this address when setting up the modem. So you don’t have to go to its control panel and change settings there.
And after factory reset, the D-Link 2540U control panel should open at 192.168.1.1. I understand that resetting in your case does not change anything. That’s strange.
Why doesn’t it connect to the internet? There are basically two reasons:
- The most popular one is that your DSL connection to your ISP is not properly configured. Maybe you set some parameters wrong. All this can be clarified with your provider.
- Some problems with the cable, on the line, or on the side of the ISP. Since you have ADSL, you can’t connect it directly to your computer to check it.
It would be good to try to connect another modem. Or set up this modem with another cable.
Check with your ISP support if there are no problems on their side. Also in the phone mode let them tell you what parameters and where to enter in the settings of D-Link 2540U.
When you do a factory reset, is it definitely happening? Did everything work before? Does it show in the control panel that there is no Internet connection, or is it just not working on the devices?
If everything is set up correctly (and you are sure it is), there are no problems with your ISP, then most likely the modem is broken.
I have very little information on your problem to give any specific advice. Everything needs to be looked at and checked.
