Connection to a WiFi TV network without a built-in WiFi module

Hello! We have installed fiber optic cable in our house, so now all the devices in the apartment (desktop PC, laptop, smartphones and one of the TVs) are connected to the Internet via wi-fi. The problem is that there is another TV set, but it has no built-in wi-fi, i.e. it can be connected to the Internet only through a wire. The question arose: is it possible to connect some device via Wi-Fi (like a router, access point or something else exists), put it next to the TV and already a short wire from this device to connect this TV to the Internet? Or should I still look for a special wi-fi module for the TV, so as not to lay a cable throughout the apartment? (we searched, it was very expensive and under the order, and what if it does not work?) I will be grateful for your advice. Thank you.

Answer

Hello. I understand your question. Since you did not specify the model of the TV, I first advise you to find out if it has Smart TV support. If not, there is no point in connecting it to the internet. And you won’t be able to go online. The LAN port there can be used only for outputting media content via DLNA technology.

If there is support for Smart TV, but there is no wi-fi module, you can do without buying a branded receiver. And their prices are very high.

You can just buy an inexpensive router, which has the ability to work in the mode of a repeater, bridge, or even Wi-Fi receiver. The router will receive Internet from your Wi-Fi network via Wi-Fi and transmit it to your TV by cable.
