Combine two apartments through a Wi-Fi bridge
Good afternoon, I want to reduce the cost of the Internet and unite the network. We have two apartments in neighboring entrances on the 5th and 6th floors, in the 1st stands Zyxel Keenetic Giga II in the 2nd Xiaomi Mi Wi-Fi Router 3, in each laid wire to the kitchen. So the question is what, I want to put the same cheap routers in the kitchens like Tenda N301 or Tenda F3 they will be in line of sight 22-23m. network should be the same for both apartments, not just the Internet, it would be possible to throw a wire between the kitchens and replaced the router xiaomi on a switch and did not bother, but so far I do not understand how to configure the scheme wire-router-air-router-wire.
Answer
Good afternoon. Let’s try to figure it out. You have not written which router the internet will be connected to. Let the internet be connected to Zyxel Keenetic Giga II. From Zyxel Keenetic, through the LAN port connect the cable to Tenda F3 (for example), and configure Tenda in access point mode. If I’m not mistaken, there is such a mode in the settings. It turns out that Tenda F3 gives us internet via wi-fi, to which we can connect another Tenda.
I think the second router should be set up in repeater mode. You can also try the client mode, but in this case, I don’t know how it will work with IP-addresses, and whether all devices will be in the same network. From the second router (LAN) cable connect to Xiaomi Mi Wi-Fi Router 3 in the WAN port. Or to the LAN, and use the router as an access point.
Everything should be checked, as the scheme is not simple, and it is difficult to plan everything in your mind. Especially to have one local network.
And as for the stability of such a network, there may be problems. Especially when using such inexpensive routers.
