Association of 2 routers into a local network

Hello!

Perhaps you have already sorted out something like this on your site, but I have not found it.

Task:

It is necessary to unite equipment located in different rooms into one local network

Equipment:

  1. Router Asus RT-AC87U (Room 1, cable from ISP and other equipment is connected to it, 1 port is free)
  2. Router Asus RT-N14U (Room 2)
  3. Computer (Room 2)
  4. TV (Room 2)
  5. Cable connection between all equipment.

Connecting 2 routers to a local network

Questions:

  1. Is it possible to use Asus RT-N14U Router (Room 2) as a switch in the above scheme?
  2. If it is possible, what changes should be made in the settings of the Asus RT-AC87U Router (Room 1) and how to configure the Asus RT-N14U Router (Room 2)?
  3. If not, what switch (firm, model) do you recommend to buy for this project?

Hi. Sorry for the delay in replying. Perhaps the question is still relevant.

This scheme can be customized. You don’t need to change the settings of Asus RT-AC87U. On Asus RT-N14U in the settings we disable DHCP-server.

Two Asus routers on the same LAN

After that connect all three network cables to the LAN-ports of Asus RT-N14U. If you don’t need Asus RT-N14U to distribute wi-fi, you can disable it in the settings. Under Wireless network – Wireless network – Enable radio module – None.
