ADSL Internet problem. Low speed through TP-Link TD-W8901N

Hello. I have a connection to the Internet via ADSL technology. TP-Link TD-W8901N router is connected to the phone line through a splitter like the phone itself. I configured it according to the standard settings(https://www.tp-link.com/en/support/faq/113/). The tariff from Vodafone is up to 4mb/sec. But with standard settings the maximum speed reaches only ~ 55 kb/sec. A month ago I was poking around in the settings and “by the scientific method” reached the approximate value of max speed to the declared by the provider, but yesterday I mixed up the reset button and the WPS button and lost the settings. The speed became as before 55 kb.

The question is this – how can I remove the maximum speed limitation if it is by default or what is it to get the speed declared by the provider? The matter is not in the provider, computer, router, but in the settings, this I already know for sure. Also constantly losing internet connection (about every 1-2 minutes for 5-10 seconds) because of what in online games image hangs or just throws out of the game if the breaks are long. When configured independently these problems were not.

Answer

Hello. When the modem, in your case TP-Link TD-W8901N, is factory set, it does not limit the speed of ADSL Internet in any way. If there is a connection through the modem, then it should be at the maximum possible speed. And in general, the speed of 4 Mbps is very low. And it is even difficult to rearrange that the router can still cut it. Here the problem may be rather at ADSL provider Vodafone.

Anyway, to avoid guessing, you need to call Vodafone support and explain the problem. Together with them, configure your TP-Link TD-W8901N in phone mode (check the settings). Perhaps you have some parameters incorrectly specified, so such a bad speed. In this situation, this is the most correct solution.

Regarding internet interruptions via TD-W8901N ADSL modem: it is quite possible that these interruptions are caused by problems at the provider or by a hardware problem in the modem. You can try to update the modem firmware. Again, so many different nuances and options. It would be good to try how another modem will work. Then a lot of things would be clearer.

One more thing: such low speed on all devices connected to TP-Link TD-W8901N? And where did you get the speed of 55 Kbps, where did you get this figure from? Please answer in the comments below.
