How to Make a Reset on Factory Settings on Linksys Routers?

Often there is a situation when in the process of configuring the router something does not work out, or you decided to configure the router for another provider, moved it to another house, etc. In such cases, it is often necessary to change the settings, and in most cases it is much easier to configure the router again. To do this, you need to do a factory reset. In this article we will do a reset on the router Linksys. I will show the example of Linksys E1200 model. While there is no opportunity to show the process of returning to factory settings on all devices of the company Linksys, but the process there is virtually the same.

After the reset, your router will be as good as new and will need to be set up again. In most cases, everyone resets when they forget their password. If you have forgotten your Wi-Fi password, you can still recover it somehow. Go to the settings via cable, or look from another connected device. But if you forget the username and password to enter the settings, it’s easier to reset the settings to factory defaults on your Linksys.

By the way, you can reset the settings in two ways: with the help of a button on the body of the router and through the control panel. Let’s consider both options.

Reset settings on Linksys router

If you can not get into the settings of the router, then the easiest way is to do a hardware reset with the Reset button, which is located on the body of the router. The Reset button is recessed into the case. For example, on Linksys E1200 it is located at the bottom and looks like this:

You need to press the button with something sharp and hold it for about 10 seconds. The router should be powered on. Press the button, and watch the LEDs, they should all light up and go out. The router will reboot and the factory settings will be restored.

Restore factory settings through the control panel

Go to the settings of our Linksys, go to the tab Administration – Factory Settings. Click on the Restore factory settings button. Click Ok to confirm.

You will see a message that the factory settings have been successfully restored. Wait until the router reboots and you can refresh the settings page.
