The Internet Disappears, After Rebooting The Router Appears. What to do?

In this article, let’s deal with another problem that is not uncommon when connecting to the Internet through a Wi-Fi router. The problem is that the connection to the Internet disappears. There is a connection to Wi-Fi, but the Internet does not work. On computers, the connection status is “no internet access”, or “limited” with a yellow exclamation mark.

Internet disappears, appears after rebooting the router

In fact, there can be a lot of reasons. But, in our case, the Internet appears after rebooting the router, and works again for a while. Then it disappears again.

Everyone who has faced such a problem knows well how it is to reboot the router several times a day. All the time the internet disappears at inopportune times. When we watch a movie, download something, or play games. Inexplicable, and unpleasant problem, at the appearance of which the Internet is simply unrealistic to use.

As I wrote above, the reasons may be very many. To find a solution, first we need to identify the culprit in this situation. It can be:

  • Router. If the Internet disappears on all devices at the same time, it is most likely to blame.
  • Device that you connect: phone, tablet, laptop, etc.
  • Internet provider. Yes, yes, it is possible that the problem is in it.

Let’s try to find out what the cause is, well, and consider solutions.

The most correct way is to rule out problems on the side of the ISP, and the client (the device that you connect).

That would make sure that the Internet is not lost because of the ISP, it is enough to connect the Internet directly to the computer, and a little work. This is the best way. If even without a router, the Internet will periodically “fall off”, then this problem should be solved with the provider. If everything works fine, then look for the culprit further. I can say that such situations are rarely the fault of the provider.

Next we need to rule out problems on the side of the device from which we connect to the router. Here everything is very simple. If the Internet disappears on all devices at the same time, it is clear that the problem is in the router. If the Internet is lost only on one device, then the solution should be sought in it.

Most likely, it will turn out that the Internet is lost on the router, and at his fault. Let’s consider this point in more detail.

Why does the Internet disappear on the router?

As practice shows, most often the Internet “breaks” on budget routers, and it is at those moments when connected devices begin to create some load: watch online videos, download files (especially via torrent), play online games, etc. Or, when connecting new devices to Wi-Fi. For example, everything works fine, connect a smartphone or laptop, and the Internet disappears. Reboot the router, and everything works again.

If you have exactly like this, there is a noticeable connection between the load and connection failures, then the problem is that the router simply can not withstand the load. This happens on all inexpensive routers (and on expensive ones as well), it all depends on the number of connected devices and how they use the Internet connection.

I described this problem on the example of Tp-Link TL-WR741ND. The router is good, but very often people complain that the connection goes to the status of “no Internet access”, and only a reboot saves. And then not for a long time. My friend has the same problem with Tp-Link TL-WR741ND (which is from Vodafone).

What can be done?

Replacing the router with a more powerful one will of course solve the problem. But not everyone is ready to buy a new device. Therefore, you can try to disable torrent clients, if such are installed on your computers. Well, and maximally reduce the load: do not start watching videos on several devices at the same time, etc.

I also advise you to update the firmware on your router. We have instructions for all popular manufacturers on our site. Here, for example, is an instruction on how to update the software on Tp-Link. Perhaps these tips will help, or at least the Internet will not be lost so often.

It is also possible that the router has some technical failures, or problems in the power supply.

Describe your case in the comments, or share the solution. We will be grateful!
