Wireless Headphones Blink Red, Blue, White, Pink. Burn in Red. What to do?

This article is about TWS wireless Bluetooth headphones (where the right and left earbuds are separate, connected via Bluetooth and not connected by a cable). And more specifically, how to use the indicators on these headphones to identify any problems and fix them. Almost all TWS Bluetooth headphones are equipped with an LED indicator. The indicator is usually on each headphone and on the charging case. You can tell what’s going on with the headphones by whether the LED is on or blinking and what color it is. They are turned off or on, are in plug-in mode, or are already connected to the device, whether the battery is dying or not.
Many people, when there are any problems with the headphones (not connected, not charging, no sound) immediately pay attention to the indicator. And that’s right. In this article I will tell you what to do if the indicator on the headphones began to blink red, white, blue, pink or green color. Also consider solutions when the indicator light on wireless headphones lights up red, blue or another color. It happens that on one earphone the indicator light is on or blinking, but on the other earphone it is not. I will tell you why this happens and what to do.
There are LED indicators on both expensive models of headphones and the cheapest ones. On AirPods, for example, there is no indicator on the headphones themselves. There is only one indicator on the case. But in most cases, the indicators are located on the right and left earbuds and on the case. This is typical for different models: Xiaomi Haylou, Motorola Verve Buds, Xiaomi QCY, Huawei Freebuds, Xiaomi Redmi AirDots and Xiaomi Mi True Wireless Earbuds, different models from JBL, TWS headphones from OPPO, budget i7s, i9s, i10, i11, i12, i30.
Important point: there are a large number of TWS headphone manufacturers, models even more. All of them are different. The indicators on them are different too, and they behave differently. They can light up and flash in different colors. On some headphones, for example, when they are charged, the indicator lights up blue, and on others white. So, I always recommend looking at the instructions for your headphones specifically. They should come with a paper manual. If it’s in English, you can easily translate it using your phone (install the Google Translator app, point the camera and that’s it). Or find the manual on the Internet (by model).
It should be described there, what means a certain color and mode of operation of the indicator. What to do in this or that situation. And most importantly, it will be information specific to your model.
Why is the indicator light on both Bluetooth headphones blinking?
When the indicator light on the right and left earbuds blinks the same way, then most likely there is a mis-synchronization and the earbuds can’t connect to each other. In this case, the indicator light on each earphone is usually actively blinking blue or white. At the same rate.
Flashing blue
Synchronization between the headphones is in progress. The right earphone should connect to the left earphone, or vice versa. Only then can they be connected to your phone, computer, etc. For an example, I will show how it looks like on cheap Chinese headphones.
The light bulb can blink in a different color. For example, pink or green. The main thing is that it happens simultaneously on both headphones and at the same speed.
Flashing white
Using the Xiaomi Mi True Wireless Earbuds as an example. When we first take them out of the case, the white indicator on each earbud starts blinking very actively. If this blinking white light does not stop after a few seconds, then the earbuds cannot connect with each other.
Flashing red
A red light can also tell us about synchronization problems between the headphones.
It can also indicate a low battery, or problems connecting to the device. Sometimes the color of the indicator can be light red, or pink.
What to do.
- When the indicators on your Bluetooth headphones are flashing the same color and at the same rate, you need to do a full reset and resync.
- This problem is usually manifested by only one headphone working.
- Perhaps you have a problem with the connection of Xiaomi Redmi Redmi AirDots or Earbuds. I have already prepared a separate article on these models.
- If the problem is with AirPods: connecting AirPods to iPhone: can’t see, not connected, one earphone doesn’t work.
One earphone is flashing red-blue or white
Perhaps in your case there will be a different color of the indicator. But the point is that only one earphone is blinking. On the right or left. Here you need to realize that if on the second earphone the indicator does not blink at all (when turning on or taking them out of the case), then it is probably broken. Or there’s something wrong with the charging.
If you take the headphones out of the case, or turn them on with the button, and the indicator lights up on both headphones and then continues to blink on only one headphone, it should be. This means that the headphones have synchronized (connected) with each other and are ready to be plugged in. This manifests itself differently on different models. For example:
- Blinking red-blue or blue light on one headphone:
- Blinks white on one earphone:
- Depending on the model, the color of the light bulb can be different, not just white, blue or red. For example: pink, green, orange.
This means that the headphones can be connected to your phone or other device.
Wireless headphones light up red, blue, white
If this happens when the headphones are out of the case (which is very rare), try turning them off and on. To do this, press the button on each headphone for 3-5 seconds, then repeat this again. If the Bluetooth headphones light up red in the charging case, it indicates that they are charging.
When charged, they light up blue or white.
That’s normal. That’s the way it should be. But if you take the headphones out of the case and the color/behavior of the indicators doesn’t change, then you need to do a reset. I left a link to the instructions above.
My other headphones in the case while charging also light up red when charging and white when fully charged.
It’s very difficult to give a specific answer as to why certain headphones light up or flash a particular color. On different models, this can mean a different status of the device’s operation. Here it is easier to be guided by the problem: one headphone does not work – do a reset, synchronization and reconnection. The phone does not find headphones – disconnect from other devices and reset the settings. Links to these instructions are in this article.
To avoid guessing – write in the comments what headphones you have (model) and what the problem is. This way it will be easier for me to help you and suggest some solution for your model.
