How to Connect a D-Link Router? For Example, D-Link Dir-615

Hi! In this article we will connect the D-link DIR-615 router. I will show the example of this model, but the instruction is suitable for all D-link routers: DIR-300, DIR-320 and so on. Let’s consider the process of connecting the router. Connect power, Internet, and computer via cable, or wireless Wi-Fi network. I will give links to instructions on how to enter the router settings and how to set up wi-fi, Internet, etc. Simply put, you will be able to connect and configure your new D-link router yourself.
This is what the D-link DIR-615 router looks like when you first bought it:
You may have a different model, it doesn’t matter. The main thing is that we need to connect it all correctly. If you connect incorrectly, it is unlikely that you will be able to configure the router, not to mention use it.
What we need to do is:
- Connect power to the router
- If the LEDs do not light up, then turn on the power with the button on the device.
- Connect your computer, tablet, phone to the router. You can use cable or wi-fi.
- Connect the Internet to the D-link router. Cable from the Internet provider, or from ADSL modem.
- Go to the settings of our router and configure it.
Let’s look at everything in more detail.
Connecting the D-link router to your computer and ISP
First, take the power adapter, and plug it into the router. Then, plug it into an outlet. If the router does not turn on, then turn on the power with the button on the router itself. Next, if you want to connect the router to a computer or laptop via network cable (it is best to configure it via cable), then take the network cable that comes with the router, and connect the laptop or computer with its help. One end of the cable plug into the network connector on the computer, and the second connector into the LAN connector on the router. On D-link routers, LAN connectors are usually black in color. They are labeled LAN. There you go:
You can also connect over a Wi-Fi network. Just turn on the router, and a new Wi-Fi network will appear that you can connect to.
If you have connected your computer to the router, and you see on your computer the connection status: “No Internet access”, or “Limited” and the Internet is not working, it’s okay, because we haven’t even connected the Internet to our D-Link yet and haven’t configured it.
Connecting the Internet to D-link
Most likely, you just have a cable from the provider in your house, or an ADSL modem. In the first case, we take the cable from the Internet provider, and connect it to the WAN connector of the router. It is on D-link DIR-615 – yellow color. If you have Internet via modem, then the cable from the modem is also connected to the WAN connector on the router.
Most likely, even after connecting the Internet cable, the Internet on your computer (or other device that you connected) will not work. This is because you need to configure the router to work with your Internet provider. I wrote about this in the article: when setting up the router writes “No Internet access”, or “Restricted” and there is no connection to the Internet.
You need to go into the router settings, here are the instructions for D-link, and configure it. If you have connected everything correctly, but you can not go into the settings, then look at this article. The main thing – you need to choose the right type of connection, and set the right parameters that your Internet provider uses. Then the Internet through the router will start working. Also, set up a wireless network, and set a password for wi-fi.
It is best to configure the router according to the detailed instructions. We have such an instruction for the model D-link DIR-615. But, by its example, you can configure other D-Link routers. Look, perhaps I have already added detailed articles for other models. See in the section Setting up a router – D-link, or ask in the comments.
