TP-Link Eap120 Wireless Access Point: Review and Characteristics

For many, an access point is some obscure device that is no different from a regular router. I even wrote an article on this topic: what is a wi-fi access point? What is the difference between a router and an access point. So, today I’m going to show you the real TP-LINK EAP120 access point. In general, there are three access points in the EAP line. There is the most affordable EAP110, and the most powerful and expensive EAP220.

These access points were designed for business use. Even a special inscription on the box with the device says about it. Of course, no one prevents you from installing this access point at home. But, it is unlikely that you will need it. For home you can find a simpler and cheaper device. And one router is usually enough, well at most two.

As for access points from the EAP line, it is a great solution for organizing Wi-Fi network in cafes, restaurants, offices, hotels, recreation centers, beaches and other places where you need to make a Wi-Fi network for customers. There is no way to put several routers united in a network. No, you can do so, but it is not serious. And to set up such a scheme will be difficult. And access points like TP-LINK EAP120, this is what you need.

For example, you need to make a Wi-Fi network in the hotel. We install a switch to which we connect the Internet. And to the switch connect the necessary number of access points. And we get a reliable and stable network, which is easy to manage.

I forgot to write about one important point. This is a ceiling-mounted access point. Which means that it can be mounted on the ceiling, or the wall. Which is very convenient. In the kit comes a kit for mounting.

At the bottom there are holes for this mount, and a sticker with the necessary factory information on the access point.

I’m also glad that there is a Kensington connector. You can install the access point somewhere in the hallway, secure it, and not be afraid that it will be carried away by one of the visitors 🙂 🙂 .

Features and characteristics of TP-LINK EAP120

  • Gigabit Ethernet port with PoE support.
  • Power over Ethernet (802.3af) support. This chip will allow you not to conduct power to the access point. And receive it through a network cable. But you will need additional equipment.
  • Lots of mounting options. Including on the wall, or ceiling.
  • wi-fi network at 2.4 GHz. Speed up to 300 Mbps. Two internal Wi-Fi antennas of 4dBi each.
  • Clustering function. If you have several access points installed, you can assign one access point as the main one for easy configuration. After you change the settings on the main access point, they will be prescribed on all the others.
  • Branded, special EAP Controller program for management.
  • Excellent security features: authentication via RADIUS-server, WPA/WPA2-enterprise encryption, and detection of unauthorized access points.
  • It is possible to set up a so-called authentication portal. A very necessary function for some establishments. When after connecting to wi-fi, the user gets to a page where you can display some information, or ask the user to perform some action to connect to the network.
  • Stable operation when connecting a large number of clients.

If you want to organize a Wi-Fi network in your office, or other institution, then be sure to consider using access points series EAP from TP-LINK. Either way, you’ll need a knowledgeable person to select the equipment and set everything up. Since this is not a home network, and here it is very important that everything would work quickly and stably.
