The choice of Wi-Fi router for a specific apartment, devices and tasks
We had a router provider, weak, which constantly had to be rebooted. Now it is not working well at all. The provider of course offered to buy a router from them. But we decided that it would be better to buy a more reliable one.
Caught by accident on your site, first I was delighted with the abundance of information-thank you very much!!!! And secondly just “lost” in this information. So I decided to ask you for help. And I will be very grateful if you help me.
- We have a 3-room apartment with concrete walls.
- 2 televisions (via ISP network)
- 2 phones.
- 2 tablets
- 1 laptop ( if it is on, 1 phone and tablet are off)
Games are pretty primitive. We don’t download videos. In general the load is not very big, 2 TVs and 2 gadgets can work together.
I would like to cost not expensive, but reliable.
Thank you for a great site! And hope to get an answer.
Regards Lydia.

Hello. If you haven’t read it yet, then be sure to read the article What Wi-Fi router is better to buy for your home or apartment.
I do not like to give advice on specific models of routers. Everyone has different conditions, and little if anything, and then it’s my fault 🙂 As for choosing a router specifically for your apartment, and your devices. I understand the old router your ISP gave you was not very powerful. It would be good to know its model. Also, it would be good to know what kind of internet you have. I don’t know what to advise, what WAN port you need a router with. Normal Ethernet, or you have ADSL, telephone cable. Most likely Ethernet.
As far as I understand, even the old router transmitted the signal to the whole apartment, or were there places where Wi-Fi did not catch? And what does it mean “2 TVs (via ISP network)”, were they connected to the router via cable?
I would still advise you to buy something like TP-LINK Archer C20i, or Archer C20. Instructions for setting up the first one is on our site, and I will write about the second one soon. Or devices in this price category from other manufacturers.
If something cheaper, you can look at Asus RT-N12. I think it should be enough for your tasks. And see whether you need a dual-band router and whether you need a USB port.
As you can see, there are a lot of different nuances. And it is very difficult to say that this particular router will exactly suit your tasks and your apartment.
