The Dell laptop does not see the 5GHZ network. Zyxel Keenetic Extra

Hello! I bought and installed a router ZyXEL Keenetic Extra, which works in the range of 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. Smartphones recognize and connect to both networks, but the laptop (dell inspiron) sees only the network that works in the range of 2.4 GHz, besides very slow: pages load for a long time, and some do not open at all. Can the purchase of a Wi-Fi adapter to solve this problem or is it that the laptop is “clogged”? Thanks in advance.

Answer

Hello. It’s most likely very simple. The Wi-Fi adapter that is built into your Dell laptop simply does not support networks at 5GHz. I can’t say exactly, as you didn’t write the model, but most likely it is. I wrote about it in the article Why laptop, smartphone, or tablet does not see Wi-Fi network 5 GHz. Yes, buying an external USB Wi-Fi adapter will solve the problem. Only when choosing an adapter, pay attention to the fact that the adapter supports networks at a frequency of 5GHz.

As for the fact that the Internet on the laptop is slowing down, etc. Here there may be many reasons. Perhaps you have a strong interference in your house at a frequency of 2.4 GHz, that’s the unstable work of wi-fi, and perhaps, as you noticed, something in the laptop. How does the laptop work when connected to other wi-fi networks, or at least when connected to a router via cable?
