ASUS RT-N12+, RT-AC1200 and RT-AC66U B1: Asus Routers of Diffferent Price Categories

This article will be useful to everyone who is choosing a router, and stopped on the devices of the company ASUS. Most likely, you have already allocated a certain amount of money to buy a router. Or you know how much you can spend. Therefore, we will consider three routers from different price categories, which will suit different tasks. Among the models we’ll look at:
- ASUS RT-N12+ – if I’m not mistaken, this is the cheapest router from ASUS. I have one of them, so I’ll tell you more about it.
- ASUS RT-AC1200 is a more expensive model. This router is more powerful and supports the new 802.11ac standard.
- ASUS RT-AC66U B1 is an even more expensive and powerful router. Of course, it supports 802.11ac and has 2 USB ports.
If you’ve already considered different router variants, you’ve probably noticed that ASUS network devices are almost always a bit more expensive than similar devices from other manufacturers. And I think it is quite justified. Since these routers are reliable, made with quality, and work great. I also like ASUS routers because they have a simple and multi-lingual control panel. Plus, this control panel is the same on all new routers.
Personally, I used to have an Asus RT-N13U router, and now I use ASUS RT-N18U. I’m not a fan of ASUS, and I believe that other companies produce no less cool and quality routers. It just so happens that I buy routers from this manufacturer. And I have never regretted it.
ASUS RT-N12+ – a budget router option
The RT-N12 model itself can have different indices: “+”, “VP”, “D1”, “E”. All of them are practically the same in terms of technical characteristics, price and are made in one case. A cool cheap router that will fit for a small apartment, or house without problems. But if you have a lot of devices that will create a serious load on the network (watching videos simultaneously on several devices, online games, downloading files), it’s better to choose a more powerful and expensive model. There is a probability that ASUS RT-N12 will not cope with such a load.
It’s a good model. It is well-made. Nothing special in terms of features. Everything is standard, like all budget models.
- Wi-Fi speed up to 300 Mbps.
- LAN port speed 100 Mbps.
- 2 antennas of 5 dBi.
- Support for all necessary functions and technologies.
If you have a small budget, or you want to save money on the purchase of a router, this model will suit you perfectly.
ASUS RT-AC1200 – affordable router with IEEE 802.11ac support
This is not a budget model, but not a top one either. It is the golden mean in the price/quality and functionality ratio. It’s a great router for home, which can handle online games, video playback, downloading files, etc. without any problems. Of course, the AC1200 model can give out Wi-Fi at 5 GHz. There is support for the 802.11ac standard.
Main features:
- Wi-Fi speeds up to 1200 Mbps.
- MIMO technology.
- IEEE 802.11ac support. Wi-Fi at 5 GHz.
- LAN and WAN ports are non-gigabit. With a maximum speed of 100 Mbps.
- 1 USB 2.0 port.
- 4 antennas. 2 are responsible for network operation at 2.4 GHz, and 2 more for 5 GHz.
I think this router is more than enough for normal home use. If you don’t know why you need a powerful and expensive router, there’s no sense in buying a more expensive model than ASUS RT-AC1200.
ASUS RT-AC66U B1 – a powerful router for home
This is not the most expensive and top router model from ASUS, but the router is functional and very productive. At the heart of the router is a 1GHz processor. This means that good speed and stable network is provided even with a large number of connected devices. Besides, ASUS RT-AC66U supports all modern technologies. This means that the router will be relevant and will not become obsolete for a long time.
This model has everything:
- Support for the modern IEEE 802.11ac standard.
- Wi-Fi network speeds up to 1750 Mbps.
- Gigabit LAN and WAN ports.
- Powerful processor.
- 2 USB ports. One of which is standard 3.0.
This router is definitely worth its money. If your budget allows, you can buy it.
If these three models are not suitable for you, or you still have some questions about technical aspects, I advise you to read my article with tips on choosing a router.
