Unstable work TP-Link TL-WR741ND and non-working DIR-615 after firmware

Let me start from afar. About 3 years ago I bought a router TP-LINK TL-WR741ND. It was bought hastily, that the consultant advised that I took. The router from the very beginning was crooked-if you connect to it from a phone, tablet, etc., then after 15-30 minutes it just disconnected from the device or stopped providing Internet. Cured only by rebooting the router every 15-30 minutes respectively. Now I bought myself a PS4, and strangely enough, it just doesn’t see this router. Even if you put it close to it. But, when dancing with tambourine, PS somehow detects the router, and then there are 2 options:

  1. The internet just goes down. I.e. no connection to the Internet on the PC, PS, phone, etc. There is a yellow triangle on the computer. Cures by completely unplugging the router for a few minutes.
  2. Internet on PS connects for 40-60 minutes, and then disconnects the Internet as in the first case.

In connection with these problems it was decided to take another router – D-Link DIR-615. I connected it to the PC, it detected a new device, threw me to the router management page. All configured, wanted to close the window, but noticed the proposal to update the firmware and as the last idiot agreed. The Internet disappeared (which is logical) and I waited for the router to update. In the end I waited for 5 hours + all night and the router never updated. It was decided to disconnect it from the network and reset it to factory settings. Result: the router simply does not see the connected wires of the Internet. On the PC when connecting through this router red icon and error “Internet cable is not connected”. Is it possible to revive any of these routers?

Answer

Let me start with TP-LINK TL-WR741ND. It’s not a bad router, but it’s budget and weak. What you are experiencing: loss of connection, constant reboots of the router – it’s all because of the weak hardware in TP-LINK TL-WR741ND. It simply can not withstand the load that is created by phones, tablets, computers and even more so Sony PlayStation 4. For such tasks, this is a weak router. It’s also possible that it doesn’t already have a beefed up power supply. On this topic, I wrote a separate article: Internet disappears on the router Tp-Link TL-WR741ND (TL-WR741N). Without access to the Internet.

If updating the firmware, reconfiguration does not help, and TL-WR741ND continues to hang, there is nothing you can do.

D-Link DIR-615 – frankly speaking, you have exchanged a “shilo for a soap”. This is the same budget router, which is likely to be insufficient for your tasks. The same Sony PlayStation 4 needs a stable, good and fast Internet. And D-Link DIR-615 if it will not be disconnected, it will most likely cut the speed at times of load on it.

As for the firmware and the failure of D-Link DIR-615: I do not know what happened there, but it is clearly some kind of failure when updating the software. You didn’t write the main thing. Can you go into the D-Link DIR-615 settings now? Do you reset the settings? When you connect cables to it (LAN and WAN), do the indicators on the router light up?
