How to equip a home local network and Wi-Fi during the repair process?
What do you advise, how to install the equipment with minimal cable visibility? Maybe on the wall to install an Internet socket (where the Wi-Fi router can be connected), the cable from it also lead to the ceiling (in the hatch)? And all the existing cables (from the rooms and kitchen, ISP cable) should be connected in the hatch through a hub or switch? I am unfortunately not very familiar with this technique, and the installers do not explain. Thank you.
Answer
Good afternoon. I would like to see it all, it is very difficult to orient myself. I am interested in only one point: the cable from the provider is connected directly to the router, there is a regular network cable with an RJ-45 connector, or do you need some more equipment?
I do not know on what technology the provider gives the Internet. But most likely, it will not work to connect the cable from the ISP and from sockets through one switch or hub (it’s practically the same thing).
The cable from the provider should go to the WAN port of the router, and already from the router it can be divorced through the LAN, well, and on the Wi-Fi network.
As a rule, all Wi-Fi routers with 4 LAN ports. You write that you may need 5 LAN ports. Why? You only have 3 outlets. Or do you have several in each room?
And putting a router in a hatch under the ceiling is not a good idea either. It’s probably not going to cool down very well. Or is it not very cramped? You can look at another article: where to install a Wi-Fi router in an apartment or house.
Wi-Fi shouldn’t be a problem. If there is no coverage throughout the apartment, you can put a Wi-Fi network amplifier, or in one of the outlets to connect another router or access point.
With set-top boxes for IPTV should be determined at once. Frankly speaking, I do not think that you will have more than 4 of them. It seems to me that it will be difficult for the router to hold such a load.
Again, there are a lot of different nuances there. There’s nothing specific in my answer, I realize that, but it’s very hard to advise something blindly. Maybe my assumptions will help you make up your mind somehow. You can write in the comments.
