Zyxel Keenetic Start II and ADSL modem. How to setup?

Hello. Router ZyXEL Keenetic Start 2.

I tried to install a new router. I connected it to the modem through the blue wire, and connected the router to the laptop through the second, yellow wire.

In NetFriend Quick Setup I couldn’t get everything set up, because the contract with my ISP was lost. I searched for IP, gateway, etc. in the laptop, entered them in the settings, but still at the end of the configuration came out “configuration completed, but connection to the Internet failed”.

Then a TTC employee tried to help me, he said that it was better to use the web configurator instead of the quick setup. There I did everything as he said. In the end
Internet on the laptop works. But the Wi-Fi doesn’t. (Tried to use Wi-Fi on the iPad, all to no avail).

The “Internet” indicator on the router is not lit.

What do you recommend to do? How to make wi-fi work?

Answer

Hello. You should have described the connection diagram in detail. What kind of modem? And most importantly, does the internet from the modem work (when you just plug the cable into the laptop)? Without running any connections on the computer. If the modem is configured correctly, and the Internet from it works, there should be no problems at all with setting up ZyXEL Keenetic Start.

Do a reset of your ZyXEL router first.

Just plug the cable from the modem into the blue WAN port of the router (most likely it is signed as Internet). And the Internet through the router should already work. Including wi-fi.

But you can go to the settings and go through the Quick Setup Wizard (NetFriend). Only in the configuration process, in the “IP protocol parameters” section, in the menu “IP address setting” select “Automatic”. You don’t need to set any static addresses, etc. True, if the ADSL modem is configured correctly and distributes IP automatically.

When the Internet through ZyXEL Keenetic Start 2 will work, you can configure Wi-Fi network. I wrote about it in the instructions at the link above.
