Connecting Wi-Fi adapter on LG TV

I can’t remember on which forum I read that you can connect LG LM620T TV. Found one in China 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz 300 Mbps 802.11a/b/g/n WLAN Wireless Adapter USB Wi-Fi Adapter for LG Smart TV Windows 7/8/10 for Broadcom BCM4323. When connected, the TV does not recognize it. How to set it up, do I need any driver?

Answer

Let’s start with the fact that your LG 42LM620T TV does have a Smart TV and can be connected to the Internet. It does not have a built-in Wi-Fi module, but you can connect it via USB. The TV also has a LAN port. You can connect the internet via cable.

As far as I know, LG TVs (as well as TVs of other manufacturers) support only branded Wi-Fi adapters. There they have an adapter LG AN-WF100 and LG AN-WF500. Maybe new models have already appeared. In any case, you need to check with support which adapter is needed for your TV. It is not specified in the specifications.

As for Chinese Wi-Fi receivers for LG TVs. I highly doubt that the TV will recognize and work with a non-branded receiver. Even if it is built on the same chip as the original.

You didn’t provide a link to your receiver, nor did you attach a photo. That’s too bad. But I think you have a receiver with a LAN port. They have them in Chinese stores. It’s a mini-repeater that plugs into the USB port of the TV (only for power), then using the WPS button connects to your home Wi-Fi network and transmits the Internet to the TV via a network cable. It looks like this:

The scheme turns out to be about the same as I described in the article how to connect a TV without Wi-Fi to the Internet via wi-fi. Only there I used a Wi-Fi router as a receiver.

If you have the same receiver as in the photo above, the TV should not detect it. Internet to the TV is connected by cable from the receiver. And the receiver to your Wi-Fi network.

Well, if you have an ordinary receiver, which as if should work with LG TV, but does not work, then it is unlikely that you can do anything there. It’s not a computer, you can’t install drivers in the TV.
