The Internet disappears after half an hour, after setting up the modem Upvel UR-104AN

Good afternoon. Sorry, I don’t know where to turn. We have Internet at home through the phone (cable from the street – through a splitter – one to the phone, the second to a modem Upvel UR-104an.) Provider TTK Siberia. From the modem through two pachcords (to the system unit and to Wi-Fi router tp-link TL-WR841N). When connected, the lights on the router power, dsl, Internet are lit as they should be. But there is no connection on the PC (no network address is assigned).

Dealt with the provider, reset the settings, re-entered – the Internet is enough for half an hour and again fails, although the modem lights are lit as well. Tried in the adapter settings to enter the parameters manually – the Internet is there, but tp-link does not perceive them, and Wi-Fi is needed.

They advise to change the modem upvel, but maybe you can tell me about this problem. Thank you very much.

Answer

Good afternoon. I can hardly tell you anything blindly. I would need to see the settings of the modem, computer, etc.

How such a scheme (quite simple and popular) should work ideally: Internet is connected to the modem. In your case to UPVEL UR-104AN. The modem has all the parameters set by the provider (TTK Siberia). The modem connects to the Internet and distributes it through the network cable.

Since the modem most likely has a DHCP server and it is enabled, it distributes IP-addresses automatically. This means that the Internet should work on the computer immediately after connecting the network cable. Provided that in the properties of the network connection on the PC is set to automatically obtain an IP address.

Similarly, the Internet should automatically work through TP-Link TL-WR841N router after connecting the cable to the WAN port. As the default connection type there is DHCP (automatic address acquisition).

What is your problem – it’s hard to understand. Check these settings and give your answer in comments:

  1. What exactly happens on the computer if you put automatic IP acquisition and connect the cable from the modem? What is the connection status, errors?
  2. In UPVEL UR-104AN settings, you need to check if DHCP server is enabled.
  3. Do you have a connection to your ISP configured on UPVEL UR-104AN? Are you not running any connections on your computer?
  4. Where did you reset the settings and reconfigure? On the modem? There should be an item “Connect automatically”, is it enabled?
  5. What parameters did you set in the adapter settings on the PC? In case of trouble, you can also specify them in TP-Link settings. By selecting the connection type “Static IP”.
Static IP when TP-Link is connected to a modemYou can try it.

Maybe it’s a problem in the modem itself, maybe it’s something at the ISP. It could be anything.
