Mercusysysys MW300re-Review and Setting Up of an inexpensive Wi-Fi amplifier

The biggest frustration that can come after buying and installing a router is the lack of Wi-Fi network range. When the router is not enough to cover the entire house, apartment, or other premises with wireless signal. I have faced this problem many times myself. There are not many working solutions in this situation: return the router to the store and buy a more powerful model (I’ll tell you a secret that the range of Wi-Fi network of all routers is about the same), or buy a repeater. For example, Mercusys MW300RE. This is a device, the task of which is to strengthen the signal of Wi-Fi network.
Mercusys MW300RE is an inexpensive amplifier that can be installed and configured in a few minutes with almost any router. With its help you can decently increase the range of wireless network and get the opportunity to connect to wi-fi where before it was impossible due to lack of signal.
Repeater MW300RE can amplify Wi-Fi network at speeds up to 300 Mbps. It works according to 802.11b/g/n standard. Due to two external antennas, its efficiency is significantly increased. The device is very simple. Two buttons and one indicator.
The amplifier looks stylish.
Despite the low price of this device, the plastic and assembly are of good quality.
At the bottom there is a WPS button and a Reset button. There is no LAN port in this amplifier.
For Mercusys MW300RE to start working, it needs to be plugged in and configured. Now I will show you how to do it.
Configuring the Mercusys MW300RE
There are two ways to do this:
- Configuration using WPS. You need to have a WPS button on your router and have this feature enabled.
- Configuration through the control panel. When we go into the MW300RE settings, we select the desired network and connect to it.
1 way
The setup process using the WPS button is very simple. We plug the amplifier into an outlet. Activate the WPS function on the router (usually the indicator on the router starts blinking) and press the WPS button on the repeater for two minutes (better at once).
If the amplifier is connected to the router, the green or orange indicator on the router will be constantly lit.
Method 2
Turn on Mercusys MW300RE and connect to its open Wi-Fi network from any device (better from a computer).
Next, open a browser and go to http://mwlogin.net.
A page will appear where you need to think up and set a password that will protect the settings of the amplifier (this password will need to be entered every time you go into the settings).
Click on the “Next” button to start the setup.
Next, click on the “Scan” button. Important! After clicking on this button, as if nothing happens. In fact, the router starts searching for available networks. Just press once and wait a little.
A list of available networks will appear. Click on “Connect” next to your Wi-Fi network (whose signal you want to boost).
Specify the password of the network you want to connect to and click “Next”.
Reboot the repeater by clicking on the “Reboot” button.
After rebooting the repeater will start working. In the list of available networks will be our network to which we connected. The signal will be amplified. If the orange indicator on the MW300RE is lit, it means that there is a bad signal from the router. If the indicator is green, everything is fine.
It is advisable to choose an optimal location for the amplifier. When it is as far away from the router as possible, but the signal indicator is green.

More information
You may need to do a reset of your Mercusys MW300RE. To do this, press the “Reset” button and hold until the indicator light starts flashing actively.
Eventually, the indicator should light up red.
The setting is very simple. Basically, just like on other amplifiers. MW300RE works well and stable. It is a great option for increasing the range of your home Wi-Fi network. In my opinion, the manufacturer only needs to improve the control panel a bit to make it look better visually. And I would add a LAN port to this amplifier so that I could connect devices via cable.
