The web admin of the ADSL modem ZYXEL does not open

That is on other computers, in particular laptop under Windows 8 works. Immediately after connecting the RJ-45 network cable, 192.168.1.1 opens in any browser and enters the Zyxel P660RT3 EE modem’s admin area (the phone cable is not connected anywhere yet).

But when I connect it to my desktop computer with a built in network – no reaction. Physically, the Ethernet light goes out when pulling the network cord out of the modem and lights up when plugging it in. Administration, on the other hand, does not work. I checked on two platforms: Windows 7 and XP. If you type the same http://192.168.1.1 in any browser, the browser seems to start spinning, but then eventually gives the error “Unable to connect to remote server”.

I automatically installed the software, and a lot of downloaded from the official site (only those that matched the chip number of Realtek – I have RTL8100c. Winda – itself puts RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC ) The result is the same.

I configured TCP-IP as specified. Or gave auto-detection of the protocol. I also tried rebooting. It doesn’t work the same way.

Checked in the command line ipconfig It gives out

Microsoft Windows XP sp2 [Version 5.1.2600] IP Protocol Configuration for Windows
Computer Name . . . . . . . . . . . . . : biyvht4da
Primary DNS Suffix . . . . . . . :

LAN connection 5 – Ethernet adapter:

Default gateway . . . . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1

And 192.168.1.33 is pinged quickly, but the sought 192.168.1.1 is not: the waiting interval for the request has been exceeded…. (four times)

I installed the NetFriend program supplied with the modem. “The easiest installation even by non-professionals”…. The program does not find the device.

After installing Realtek RTL8139 Diagnostics Program, it gives this:

MAC Address: 00192115D012
Link Status: Connected
Link Speed: 100Mbps
Media Type: Full Duplex
Driver name: RTL8139.sys

Passing the test:

Register Access, EEPROM Access, Link – always Pass, but Loopback – always Fail.

Additional test:

As initiator – Test Packets Sent: 6, Received: 0. (Error: Responder not found )
as responder – (Error: initiator not found ).

I also uninstalled all these installed programs, rebooted – the result is the same.

I checked, on my line with a properly connected splitter – Dial-up modem calmly calls wherever it is needed – and at a good, stable speed.

In general, the state of connection on the local network – seems to be without error, but apparently it is only in the opinion of the computer?

Answer

You didn’t write whether the connection status (the icon in the tray) changes on the computer after connecting the cable from the ADSL-modem. It is important!

Connecting a telephone cable to ADSL-modem has no effect on entering its settings.

If the settings of ADSL-modem Zyxel P660RT3 EE are opened from another computer, then the problem is in this stationary computer or in the network cable. But you probably used the same cable to connect to your Windows 8 laptop, where everything works. So that leaves only the PC.

Since there are usually no problems with cable connection (especially since you tried it on Windows 7 and Windows XP), the problem is most likely hardware. Something with the network card itself. Just because the LED on the network card lights up doesn’t mean anything.

Since you have already reinstalled the network card drivers many times, here is what I can advise:

  1. Do a full reset of the Zyxel P660RT3 EE. Perhaps the MAC address of the PC’s network card is locked in the modem settings.
  2. Do a Windows network reset on that PC. Here are the instructions: /miscellaneous-tips-for-windows/tcp-ip-and-dns-network-settings-in-windows-7/
  3. Uninstall the network card in the device manager. Then reboot the PC, connect the modem and log on to 192.168.1.1.
  4. If possible, connect a network cable from another modem/router to this PC. To test.

You can write about the results in the comments.
