Is it possible to use a router as a receiver for a PC or Xbox?

Hello, this is a very interesting question for the average person.

I have a router at home, it hangs separately at the entrance to the house. There are also laptops, computers, phones and an Xbox at home.

To get internet on the computer, I always have to use a USB hotspot from my phone.

So the question is, how do I connect the new router to my computer via the main router? Or to the Xbox to work the Internet. And what is required for this?

Answer

Hello. Did I understand you correctly, you want to use the second router as a Wi-Fi network receiver from the main router for your desktop computer, or Xbox?

Many routers allow you to do this. The best mode for this is “Client” (Adapter). You can also organize it in bridge mode. When the router connects to the WI-Fi network and distributes the Internet via cable to the same PC or Xbox. But you have not written what kind of router you have, so I can not give you anything specific. The scheme, frankly speaking – so bad.

For a computer it is better to buy a USB Wi-Fi adapter. How to connect it all and how it works, I wrote here. And how to choose an adapter for PC, you can read here.

On Xbox it is difficult to suggest something. Doesn’t this console have built-in wi-fi? Maybe the external module can also be purchased separately.
