Sony TV and Router ONT ZTE ZXHN F670

Hello, I have a Sony KDL-55W905A TV model. Previously, it connected to wi-fi perfectly.

Recently I changed my provider to Vodafone, now the connection is GPON with a router ONT ZTE ZXHN F670.

The TV does not connect to wi-fi. Only sees the network 2.4 GHz. Other devices in the house work with this router without problems. The TV is connected to the Internet when it is connected from the phone. We called Vodafone tech support and SONY tech support, but no one could find the cause.

I thought, maybe not combined some technical capabilities, but judging by the technical specifications, both devices support IEEE802.11n protocol. I don’t know what else could be the problem and what other direction to look in?

Answer

Hi. Having studied the specifications of Sony KDL-55W905A TV and ONT ZTE ZXHN F670 router, I haven’t found any reason why there could be such a connection problem. The ONT ZTE ZXHN F670 router can broadcast Wi-Fi in two bands (2.4GHz and 5GHz). The TV most likely doesn’t support the 5 GHz band (802.11ac standard). But that’s not a problem, it should connect to a network in the 2.4GHz band.

It’s bad, of course, that you didn’t describe how the process of connecting to a Wi-Fi network on the Sony TV goes, at what stage the error appears and what kind of error. It would be good to see a photo of the error. You can add this information in the comments below.

If you have set the same wifi network name on your new router as you had on your old router, this could be the reason why your Sony TV is not connecting to wi-fi.

I would on the new router change the network name and password. The security type should be WPA2-PSK. In the router settings, in the Wi-Fi network settings section, you should check if the mode is set to 802.11n or mixed (auto). You can manually set the channel width to 20 MHz or 40 MHz. After each change of settings you need to save them and reboot the router. Unfortunately, I can’t give you more details on how to configure ONT ZTE ZXHN F670 specifically. I don’t have this device.
