Why is the Internet MGTS on a Wi-Fi PC unstable?
I have a very strange problem that I am facing for the first time.
On March 18, in the evening, I noticed unstable internet problems. How did the problem manifest itself? I was sitting in discord with my friends, and at first I didn’t pay attention – I thought it happens. I was communicating, suddenly the connection becomes very bad, and then it came back to normal. It was like that every 15-20 seconds. Well, I think, tomorrow everything will be fine, I thought it was an isolated case.
No. From March 18th to today, it’s the same thing. On youtube, social networks and other sites there is a problem, but they are barely noticeable. The problem is very noticeable when playing some online game or sitting in the same discord.
The provider is Vodafone. And, by the way, I would like to say that in August of that year we changed the router. We were told that the network has two lines, in general – GPON and GPON5. On GPON5 we were asked to connect mobile devices (iPhone, iPAD, etc.), and on GPON – only a computer. And it is interesting to note that the problems of unstable Internet are only on the computer. We have no problems with unstable internet on any of the mobile devices. Only on the computer.
The connection between the router and the computer is via wi-fi, not cable. GPON5 does not see (or does not recognize, I do not know). Since August last year, after replacing the router, the Internet on the computer, in general, did not cause any global problems. But it’s been 12 days since I’ve been tormented with the problem.
I called Vodafone operators – they said that their connection is clean and everything should work fine. So they didn’t help much. They said to update network card drivers. Due to the fact that I did not know how to update drivers, I googled, in general I found where I had to go, I found “Network Adapters” – “Realtek Gaming GbE Family Controller” – update driver. And always gave the following – “the most suitable drivers for this device are already installed”. Maybe I did something wrong.
I would like to know what could be the problem and how to solve it?
Answer
Hello. The first thing you need to do is to measure the ping and speed on your computer and on other devices. This can be done according to the instructions: How to check the speed of the Internet on a computer, smartphone, tablet? Share the results in the comments.
I would like to know in more detail how exactly unstable internet connection on a computer manifests itself. Youtube does not have time to load videos? In the program Discord connection drops out? What happens in online games?
We were told that the network has two lines, or something like that – GPON and GPON5.
I understand they are two Wi-Fi networks in different bands 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. Since you connect your computer via Wi-Fi to the router and it doesn’t see the “GPON5” network, the most likely reason is that the Wi-Fi adapter on your computer doesn’t support the 5 GHz band. Read more in the article why a laptop, smartphone, or tablet does not see the Wi-Fi network 5 GHz. Of course, if you have a router that gives out a network in the range of 5 GHz, it is better to connect your computer to this network (especially for your tasks). As the connection stability and speed will be higher there. I don’t know what kind of Wi-Fi adapter you have now, but most likely you will have to change it. With a new one that supports Wi-Fi 5 GHz (802.11ac). More information here: How to choose a Wi-Fi adapter for your PC.

found “Network Adapters” – “Realtek Gaming GbE Family Controller”.
Realtek Gaming GbE Family Controller is a network card (cable connection). You have a connection via a Wireless adapter. It should also be in the Device Manager. The system will almost always write that the driver does not need to be updated. You need to download it from the manufacturer’s website (in your case, the adapter) and install it manually.
