Tenda Nova MW5S-Review and Setting Mesh Wi-Fi System
Today we are going to review and configure a Mesh Wi-Fi system from Tenda. The model is the Nova MW5s. This system is sold in a set of two or three units. With these units you can build a seamless Wi-Fi network in a large apartment, house, or office. The technology of seamless roaming will provide a stable connection of all devices in range of the entire Wi-Fi network, which will be built from two, or three modules of the system Tenda Nova MW5s.
A set of two units Nova MW5s will provide Wi-Fi coverage in an area of up to 200 square meters. And three units will be able to organize a wireless network in a room of up to 300 square meters. Each unit has two built-in Wi-Fi antennas (3 dBi). There is also support for Beamforming and Maximal Ratio Combining (MRC) technologies, which improve the passage of Wi-Fi signal through walls and other obstacles.
Wireless network speed: up to 867 Mbps in the 5 GHz band and up to 300 Mbps in the 2.4 GHz band. The main module (Mesh5) of this Mesh Wi-Fi system is equipped with two gambit ( up to 1000 Mbps) Ethernet ports (WAN/LAN and LAN). On the other module (Mesh3f), the Ethernet ports only support speeds up to 100 Mbps.

Package and appearance of the Tenda Nova MW5s
The set of two modules is packed in a small box in the style of the company Tenda.
The set consists of two modules, a network cable and two power adapters. Also in the kit there is a manual.
The modules themselves are made in the form of small cubes. The main part of the case is made of matte white plastic. The top cover is made of glossy white plastic. They look very stylish.
On the front there is a logo of the Nova line of devices and a single indicator.
On the back side there are two Ethernet ports, a power adapter connector and an RST button to reset the Nova MW5s to factory settings.
On the bottom, in addition to a sticker with the factory information there are also holes that allow you to hang the module of this Mesh Wi-Fi system on the wall.
Personally, I liked the look a lot. Small, stylish, can be mounted anywhere.

Connecting and configuring the Tenda Nova MW5s
One very important point: the Nova MW5s comes with one main module. Its model is “Mesh5” (indicated at the bottom on the sticker). And one or two additional modules (depending on your kit). Their model is “Mesh3f”.
The differences between them are as follows:
- The main one (Mesh5) has gigabit Ethernet ports (so, it’s the one you need to connect the internet to).
- The main module uses a different, more powerful power adapter. 12V/1A. This adapter has a special label on it, where the power and voltage are indicated. Therefore, to “Mesh5” (look carefully at the label on the bottom of the module) connect the power adapter for 12V/1A, and to “Mesh3f” – for 9V/1A.
Connect the power adapter (12V/1A) to the main module (Mesh5) and plug it into a socket. Connect the Internet to the WAN/LAN port. The indicator on the module should be flashing green. If you just have it on, you need to do a reset. Press the RST button for 10 seconds.
You need to install the “Tenda wi-fi” app on your phone. After installing the app, connect to the Wi-Fi network of the Nova MW5s system. The factory name (SSID) and password are on the label on the module itself. After connecting to the Wi-Fi network, open the “Tenda wi-fi” application and follow the instructions. You need to click on the “Setup” button, select the type of Internet connection (if you don’t know – check with your Internet provider), set the Wi-Fi network name and password.
Since we have changed the settings of the wireless network, we need to reconnect to it. Then go back to the “Tenda wi-fi” application and agree to connect the second module. Before doing this, connect the second module in another room.
The modules will connect automatically. The app will show you the steps to follow to connect the modules into one seamless Wi-Fi network. The indicator light on the second module should stop flashing green. The app will display all connected modules of the Nova MW5s system.
You can change other settings in the “Settings” section. I recommend you to enable the “Fast Roaming” function.

After installing all modules, pay attention to the color of the indicator light on each of them. Preferably, it should be lit green. This indicates a good connection between the modules. If the indicator is yellow or red, move the modules closer together.
