Review 4G LTE TP-Link TL-MR150-JUST Add A Sim Card

TP-Link TL-MR150 is the simplest and most affordable solution when it is necessary to organize connection to the Internet via mobile operator’s network. When there is no possibility to organize cable Internet, and the only option is 3G/4G network, which today is already available in small towns and villages. This router has a built-in 3G/4G modem. Therefore, all we need is just insert any SIM card into the router, connect your devices to the router via Wi-Fi or cable and you can use the Internet connection.

This is much easier, cheaper and more convenient compared to the scheme router + USB 3G/4G modem. There you still need to select these modems for the router, configure them, modems fall off all the time. With TP-Link TL-MR150 it would be much easier. You only need a SIM-card and 3G/4G network coverage of your chosen operator. Also TL-MR150 can work as an ordinary Wi-Fi router. That is, it has a WAN-port where you can connect the Internet via cable. Even if you get a cable internet connection, you won’t have to change the router. Also the second connection can be used as a backup.

Completion and appearance

The packing is usual. It is the same as other TP-Link routers. There is information about the router on it. But in my case the router is for the European region and all the information is in English.

TP-Link TL-MR150 package: router, power adapter, two 4G LTE antennas, network cable, instructions and an adapter from Nano SIM to Micro SIM.

The main part of the TP-Link TL-MR150 case is made of black matte plastic. And the top cover with the company logo and LED indicators is made of glossy plastic. Combined with the silver logo and indicators that light up in blue color it looks very cool.

But the top part, which is glossy, gets dirty and scratched very quickly.

All the buttons and connectors are placed on the back panel. Two connectors for connecting removable antennas, POWER connector, power on/off button, 3 LAN and one LAN/WAN port, WPS/Reset button and Wi-Fi On/Off button.

The web interface of the TP-Link TL-MR150 is available at tplinkmodem.net. There is a new and modern web interface installed on this model. It looks like this:

In the settings there is an option to view and send SMS. You can also send USSD commands.

It is practically not necessary to set up the router. It starts to distribute the Internet immediately after installing the SIM-card. Only if there is network coverage and there are no restrictions from the operator. When entering the settings for the first time, the router asks you to change the administrator password. You can also change the Wi-Fi network name and password if you want. Or you can leave the factory settings, which are indicated on the TP-Link TL-MR150 case.

I can safely recommend this router to everyone who doesn’t have the opportunity to have wired Internet, but has 3G/4G LTE network coverage of at least one operator. To access the Internet you will only need TP-Link TL-MR150 and a SIM-card. In general, I don’t see the point of buying USB modems. Unless you need to connect only one computer to the Internet and don’t need wi-fi.
